Seaweeds

*Seaweed" is the common name for countless species of marine plants and algae that grow in the ocean as well as in rivers, lakes, and other water bodies.
Seaweeds have incomparable remineralizing and rebalancing properties. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements and essential nutrients that the body needs on a daily basis to accomplish its many tasks.
There are green, red, blue, brown algae. Red algae are richer in amino acids than green or brown algae.
Edible algae are real concentrates of nutrients and one of the rare vegetable sources of omega 3 in the same way as fatty fish (tuna, salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, etc.) which provide the essential EPA and DHA, two acids essential fats, good for the brain, heart, eyes etc.

Agar-agar: is an extract of red sea algae that comes in the form of bars, flakes or powder. It is a gelling agent that replaces animal gelatin. It is low calorie, fat free. It contains calcium, iron, iodine, vitamins A, C, D… Very practical to use to make yogurt preparations, soy milk custard tart etc.
Chlorella (vulgaris): is a freshwater green algae, an excellent source of group B vitamins (B1, B6, rich in B12), vitamin E, minerals and trace elements (magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, selenium…), omega 3 essential fatty acids… Chlorella is rich in protein, its virtues are ideal for detoxifying the organism body of heavy metals and toxins, purifies the intestinal flora, purifies the blood and tissues, etc. It comes in the form of powder or capsules.
Dulse: is a red seaweed. It is rich in proteins, vitamins A, B, C, E, minerals and trace elements (iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iodine…). It is presented dried or fresh. To be eaten straight out of the bag, in soups or salads, crumbled over pasta instead of salt, in dry-roasted chips in a pan or in the oven for a few minutes.
Dunaliella salina: is a green micro-algea, it develops naturally in warm seas and likes salt marshes. It contains 4 pigments known for their antioxidant actions (beta-carotene: provitamin transformed by the body into vitamin A, astaxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin), this combination of carotenoids acts in synergy at different levels of the body (cells, sight, skin etc.). It comes in the form of powder or capsules.
Klamath: is a freshwater blue/green algae. It takes its name from Klamath Lake in Oregon, where it comes from (the only place in the world where it grows naturally). It contains minerals and trace elements (copper, zinc, calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron etc.) vitamin A, group B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B6, B12), C, E, omega 3 fatty acids and 6 etc. It comes in the form of capsules, flakes, powder and only fresh in the United States where it is frozen (without losing its virtues) immediately after its harvest.
Kombu: is a brown seaweed very low in protein, rich in minerals and trace elements (iodine, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, etc.). This seaweed has natural glutamate which enhances the flavor of meals. It comes fresh in salt or dried, to be eaten in soups and/or with fish, in salads.
Sea lettuce: is a green sea algae, rich in vitamins A, C, B (B12), minerals and trace elements (iron, calcium, magnesium, iodine, etc.), sources of protein, fiber, antioxidants… A seaweed that comes fresh to eat in salads, perfect for seaweed tartars, dried to sprinkle on your gratins or soups.
Lithothamme or Phymatolithon calcareum: is a red sea algae, rich in minerals and trace elements (calcium, magnesium, zinc, manganese, selenium, iron, copper, potassium iodine, etc.), vitamin C, antioxidants. Its properties are numerous: Remineralising action, stimulates immunity, etc. It comes in the form of capsules or powder.
Nori: is a red seaweed, rich in minerals and trace elements (calcium, iodine, potassium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, etc.), vitamin A (especially beta-carotene), group B vitamins, C... Nori contains more protein than meat. Seaweed to eat with sushi, maki or eat like potato chips.
Spirulina: is a freshwater blue/green micro-algae, rich in minerals and trace elements (zinc, manganese, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, high in iron, etc.). It contains vitamins essential to the proper functioning of the organism, vitamin A, beta carotene, group B vitamins (including B12) vitamin D (spirulina is the largest vegetable source that contains it), vitamin E, vitamin K, antioxidants, high fiber content… It comes in the form of powder, flakes or capsules. To be consumed sprinkled on salads, in smoothies… Spirulina is considered a superfood because it contains exceptional nutritional properties.
Wakame: is a brown seaweed rich in protein, vitamin A, beta-carotene, group B vitamins (the richest in B12), minerals and trace elements (calcium, iron, iodine, magnesium, sodium, etc.), essential amino acids… Seaweed to be eaten fresh, in salads or dried, sprinkled on all your preparations.
